Segments

Night after Night had it's share of recurring bits, gags, and silly little things only the obsessive fans would actually care about. Here are a few of the most memorable bits.

Cholesterol Carousel

We've got a fatty food for show and tell

Let's ride the Cholesterol Carousel

With these two lines, everyone watching knew that it was time for another installment of grease-laden goodness. I myself had a surprisingly high cholesterol count in high school, probably in part because of watching these segments. I must have absorbed a few points here and there.

Remember that this was the age of low-fat, high-fiber, no taste meals. Therefore, Night After Night fought back by featuring a huge array of artery-clogging treats. It featured such classics as a Japanese rice cracker called Nice Economy and the venerable British pudding which has been the butt of many a ribald joke, Spotted Dick. When Allan and crew went to L.A., the segment looked at the world-famous Oki-Dog, something that looked like what might happen if all the contents of your fridge all melted together into a meaty, cheesy, gooey mess. Mmmmm, fattening.

Spotted Dick. It got you out of the army in 1942. Now it's available in a convenient, take-home size. And with that final joke, it's time to get off the Carousel and find some Pepto.

Now I feel like my veins are filled with fudge

I'm so bloated I can hardly budge

Dave the Weatherman

Dave. Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave, Dave. What can one say about Dave the Weatherman? Psychopath? Freak? Well, no matter what, he seemed just a bit off-kilter. Brought in to help give more credibility to Allan's news segment, Dave brought life to many bizzarre moments on the show. His obsession with "fluffy clouds" seems to be the only proof that Dave was indeed a certified weatherman.

Soon after Dave was introduced, Allan brought in another personality, Beth the Weather Girl. Beth was more of a normal weatherperson, but she disappeared under mysterious circumstances that have never been fully explained on the show. Rumor has it that Dave, driven to jealousy by the much more popular Beth, somehow got her dropped from the show. If anyone has any facts that might prove or disprove this rumor, please email me.

Magic Comedy Goat

It's a goat. It pulls a cart filled with comedy. It flies through the air bringing funny to everyone. Touch it. Feel it. Be it. Now go to the kitchen and make it a sandwich. With the good bread. And that real cheese, none of that fake individually-wrapped cheese. Just feed the damn goat already!
